World No. 15 Marin Cilic barely raised a sweat in his comfortable 6-0, 6-4 win over Philipp Kohlschreiber in the BMW Open.
The talented Croat, who reached the quarter-finals here last year on his debut (l. to Mathieu), saved all three break points he faced while converting four of five break point opportunities on Kohlschreiber’s serve to wrap up his third victory over the German in 77 minutes. Kohlschreiber won his maiden title in Munich (d. Youzhny) in 2007.
Cilic, who is currently at his career high ranking, improved to 23-6 for the season. The Zagreb resident has already won two tournaments this year with victories in Chennai (d. Devvarman) and Zagreb (d. Ancic).
Cilic will avoid facing another German after Frenchman Jeremy Chardy beat 6th seed Nicolas Kiefer 6-4, 7-6(8).
