Former World No.4 Greg Rusedski strongly believes Andy Murray can win his maiden grand slam title this year eventually become the top player in the world.
Murray will become the highest-ranked British player in the open era when he rises to No.3 on May 11.
This accomplishment, will take him past former British greats Tim Henman and Greg Rusedski who both managed to reach No.4 in the world.
“He is definitely good enough to win a grand slam and get to world No.1, although Rafael Nadal will have a lot to say about that unfortunately,” Rusedski said.
“The next year will be critical for him to get over hurdle of winning that first major. If he wins one I think there could be many more to come.”
Murray, who has won 11 tournaments in his career, will be carrying British hopes when Wimbledon starts next month.
Rusedski believes that Murray is highly capable to deal with that burden and expects him to be one of the title contenders.
“He is in good shape and if he continues to perform as he has this year he has a good chance to win Wimbledon,” Rusedski added.
“It is a personal dream now to win a major championship.”
“He should do fantastically well if he is healthy, he can handle the pressure.”
“I can see him getting to the semis, if not further.”
