No.2 seed Ivo Karlovic advanced to his first ATP World Tour semi-final of the year with a 6-3,6-3 victory over Italian Flavio Cipolla.

The World No.21 fired 13 aces, won 88 percent of points on his first serve, and coverted three of six break points to wrap up the victory in 71 minutes.

The 30 year-old Croat won his 10th match of the season and is two wins short from his 150th tour-level victory. Karlovic resdiscovered his form this week, having never won back to back matches since reaching the Chennai semi-finals earlier this year (l. to Devvarman).

He next faces Polish Lukasz Kubot – who his one win away from the championship match. The lucky loser edged Belgian Kristof Vliegen 7-6(6), 6-3 in their second meeting.

Kubot becomes the first Polish player to make a ATP World Tour semi-final since Wojtek Fibak in Basel on 19 October, 1985 (l. to Edberg). Fibak is also the last player to reach a title match in Basel on 16 October, 1982 (ret. vs. Gerulaitis).
