World No.88 Yanina Wickmayer won her first title defeating Russia’s Ekaterina Makarova 7-5, 6-2 in the final of the Estoril Open.
The 19 year-old, missed three set points in the 10th game but broke her opponent’s serve two games later to take the first set. Wickmayer broke Makarova’s serve in the fourth game to take a 3-1 lead in the second set. From then on, there was no stopping the Belgian talent who then went on to win the final set with the loss of only one game.
This leaves Makarova still looking for her first title. She finished runner-up at the Grand Prix SAR in Morocco last month.
