World No.3 Novak Djokovic has won the Serbian Open, defeating Polish lucky loser Lukasz Kubot 6-3, 7-6(0).
This memorable victory gives Djokovic a better chance of qualifying for Barclay’s ATP World Tour Finals, where he is the defending champion. The 21 year-old Djokovic was contesting his fourth consecutive final and his fifth overall this year, and captured his second title of the season joining his trophy in Dubai (d. Ferrer) earlier this year.
The 26 year-old Kubot was the first Polish player to reach a ATP World Tour final since Wojtek Fibak in Basel on 16 October, 1983. He was also bidding to become the first Polish player to win an ATP World Tour title since Fibak was victorious on 5 October, 1982 at WCT/Chicago (d. Scanlon).
