World No.2 Roger Federer got off to a flyer, dismissing Swede Robin Soderling 6-1, 7-5 in 69 minutes.

Federer cruised through the first set in 20 minutes, limiting Soderling to three points on serve in the first five games before the Swede managed to win his first game. In the second set, Soderling got up a break but Federer got back on serve at 4-3 before breaking his opponent in the 11th game to seal the win.

The Swiss maestro is still looking for his first title of 2009 since winning Basel on October 2008.

He will next meet 14th seeded James Blake or big serving Croat Ivo Karlovic in the next round.
