Murray remains on course for Madrid title

Newly crowned No.3 Andy Murray earned a confidence boosting with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Spainard Tommy Robredo.

Murray, who turns 22 this Friday, converted his first of eight break point opportunities on the 11th game when Robredo hit a forehand long on the baseline. He breezed through the second set with breaks in the third, fifth and seventh games to win his 31st match of the year. Robredo drops to 21-6 this season with victories in Costa do Sauipe (d. Bellucci) and Buenos Aires (d. Monaco).

The Scot will next look to improve his 3-0 record over Argentine Juan Martin del Potro, who fought back from 1-3 in the third set to beat Stanislas Wawrinka 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in hours and 59 minutes.
