World No.2 Roger Federer recorded his 18th victory over Andy Roddick in a gruelling 7-5, 6-7(5), 6-1 encounter.

The Swiss maestro hit 15 aces and won 71 percent of service points for victory in a little over two hours. Roddick fought back form 0-3 to a 5-3 lead in the second set tie-break which he eventually won. In the decider, Roddick was no match for Federer’s power as the American slumped 6-2. This was the pair’s first meeting on clay in the 20 matches they have played.

Federer will be looking to reach his first final since the Australian Open when he faces Juan Martin del Potro. Federer beat the World No.5 earlier this year at the Australian Open in straight sets, two of which were bagels.
