World No.1 Rafael Nadal extended his clay-court streak to 32 matches when he beat fellow Spainard Fernando Verdasco 6-4, 7-5.
Nadal improves to 9-0 over Verdasco and is off to an ATP best 40-3 match record this season. During the clay-court season, Nadal has only dropped one set to Novak Djokovic during the final of the 2009 Monte Carlo Masters.
The 22 year-old captured the first set, breaking Verdasco in the tenth game to wrap it up in 47 minutes. However, in the second set, Verdasco took advantage of Nadal’s unforced errors to lead 4-0. The World No.7 failed to capitalise further on his lead when he let his fellow Spaniard win the next four games to level the set. Verdasco saved two match points in the ninth game rallying from 15-40 down but was later broken in the 11th game by hitting a forehand long.
The Mallorca native, next meets World No.4 Novak Djokovic whom he leads 13-4 in overall head to head meetings.
