No.9 seed Caroline Wozniacki reached her fourth final of the year defeating Frenchwoman Amelie Mauresmo 7-6(1), 6-3 in the semi-finals of the Madrid.
Mauresmo had the upper hand using her serve volley tactics to lead 5-3 in the first set. However, Wozniacki found her range in her groundstrokes before breaking back from two set points down as her opponent was serving for the set.
With the match back in level terms, the Dane made her surge claiming the tie-breaker 7-1. In the second set, the 18 year-old led 2-0 before succumbing to Mauresmo’s serve volley tactics.
Wozniacki was relentless, breaking to lead 5-2 and later made her opponent struggle to serve for her third game of the second set.
After one hour and 58 minutes of play, Wozniacki claimed the victory after Mauresmo made a forehand error.
