World No.26 Jurgen Melzer breezed past Frederico Gil 6-3, 6-0 to book his place in the second round of the Austrian Open.
The No.1 Austrian, won 29 of 37 service points to win in 55 minutes. Gil, who only won one point on serve in the second set, drops to 12-8 for the season. The World No.67 has reached semi-finals in Johannesburg (l. to Tsonga) and Costa do Sauipe (l. to Belucci) and one quarter-final in Casablanca (l. to Montanes).
Melzer is making his eighth straight appearance at Kitzbuhel and his ninth in the past 10 years. He improves to 9-14 for the season and meets Argentina’s Agustin Calleri in the next round.
