Jurgen Melzer won his second clay-court meeting in three matches against Argentine Agustin Calleri for a place in the Austrian Open quarter-finals.
No.2 seed Melzer, converted three of 11 break point opportunities for a 6-4, 7-5 victory in 88 minutes. The World No.26 improves to 10-14 for the season and 15-8 at his native tournament. 32 year-old Calleri, drops to a 3-8 season mark.
Melzer will contest his first ATP quarter-final since October 2008 when he takes on seventh seeded Mikhail Youzhny, who beat Stefan Koubek. It was the pairs fifth meeting with the Russian coming out on top for the first time in two years.
World No.46 Youzhny, won his 15th match of the year with a 6-2, 6-4 win in 90 minutes. The 26 year-old reached the final in Munich (l. to Berdych) and quarter-final appearances at Rotterdam (l. to Ancic) and Marsielle (l. to Llodra).
