No.7 seed Mikhail Youzhny recorded his third straight win in five clay-court meetings against home favourite Jurgen Melzer.
Youzhny booked his place in a second semi-final of the 2009 ATP World Tour season, after beating Melzer 6-4, 6-4 in 88 minutes. Youzhny hit five aces and won 42 of 63 service points to win his 16th match of the year. Melzer, who turned 28 on Friday, drops to 10-15 for the season.
The Russian, who reached Munich final (l.to Berdych), will attempt to reach his 10th ATP World Tour Final of his career when he takes on Spainard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.
