Spain’s Guillermo Garcia-Lopez advanced to his first ATP World Tour Final where he will face France’s Julien Benneteau. This will be their second meeting after clashing three years ago at the Australian Open where the Frenchman came through that time.
World No.74 Garcia-Lopez defeated Russian Mikhail Youzhny 6-3, 1-6, 7-6(5) in two hours and 24 minutes. Despite his opponent winning more points than him, he improves to 11-10 this season. This marks the Spainard’s third win over Youzhny, also triumphing in 2006 Hamburg and 2008 Gstaad.
Youzhny, who hit five aces and converted two of four break point opportunities, drops to 16-12 this year. Earlier this month, he reached the final in Munich (l. to Berdych) and reached the quarter-finals in Rotterdam (l. to Ancic) and Marsielle (l. to Llodra).
