Swiss maestro Roger Federer began his 11th Roland Garros appearance with a 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Spain’s Alberto Martin. The second seed will next encounter Argentine Jose Acasuso, who was a 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-0, 6-3 winner over Spainard Santiago Ventura.
The 27 year-old hit ten aces and 49 winners – including 17 off his forehand – for victory in 1 hour and 57 minutes.
Two weeks ago, Federer won his first title since October 2008 when he triumphed over Rafael Nadal in the final of Madrid. This Swiss No.1 improves to 27-6 for the season.
