World No.1 Rafael Nadal recorded 30 straight wins at Roland Garros, defeating Russian Teimuraz Gabashvili 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 in the second round of Paris. With the victory, the Spainard will ecilipse Chris Evert’s record of 29 consecutive match wins in French Open, set between 1974 and 1981.
Nadal saved all four break points on serve – including three in the opening game – while capitalising on five of thirteen opportunities to finish off his opponent in two hours and 17 minutes.
The Mallorca native will next meet Australian Lleyton Hewitt, who advanced with a 6-4, 6-3, 6-1 win over Kazakhstani Andrey Golubev.
