Comeback queen Jelena Dokic ended her match in tears after she was forced to retire from a back injury when she played against No.4 seed Elena Dementieva.
The former World No.4 who was leading 6-2, 3-4, wept inconsolably as a great chance to cause an upset at Roland Garros – a venue she was returning to since 2004 – eluded her.
Dokic recieved treatment from the trainer at 2-2 in the second set and the Australian, who got her career back on track with a quarter-final appearance the Australian Open, cried between points before bring forced to call it a day.
Dementieva goes on to meet No.30 Samantha Stosur, who defeated Belgium’s Yanina Wickmayer 6-3 4-6 6-4.
