World No.2 Roger Federer made clear his intentions to claim his first title at Roland Garros by fighting from a two set deficit to beat German Tommy Haas 6-7(4), 5-7, 6-4, 6-0, 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals in Paris.

The Swiss has spoken about his desire to complete his collection of Grand Slam trophies, but has been stopped by Nadal in the last three French Open finals. He has 13 Grand Slam titles to his name – all accumulated since 2003 – and one more would see him level with legend Pete Sampras.

The Basel native comes into Paris with a confidence-boosting victory over Rafael Nadal in the final of Madrid. It was his first title of the season that contributed towards his 30-6 record for the year.

Federer will next play Frenchman Gael Monfils who beat No.6 seed Andy Roddick 6-4, 6-2, 6-3.
