Svetlana Kuznetsova will be able to retire happily after adding the Roland Garros crown to the US Open title she won five years ago.
The seventh seed simply outclassed World No.1 Dinara Safina 6-4, 6-2 to clinch her second Grand Slam of her career.
The 23 year-old, who has now won two of her favourite tournaments and although she has plenty of time left on the circuit, she insists that anything from now is seen as a bonus.
Kuznetsova was rock solid in her game against her compatriot, who has now lost all three of the Grand Slam finals she has played in.
Safina was bidding to capitalise on her position with her first major but her game fell apart on the slow clay surface.
In the decisive game, the World No.1 hit three shots long in a row and her backhand bought up the first match point for her opponent in the final game in what would have been put away as a winner in the earlier rounds.
At the start, Kuznetsova barely celebrated after being gifted the title by Safina’s double fault after 1 hour and 14 minutes.
