Naomi Cavaday pulled off the best win of her career to reach the third round of the AEGON Classic in Birmingham.

The 20 year-old wildcard entry from Kent, England beat experienced Thai Tamarine Tanasugarn 7-6(5), 2-6, 6-4.

The No.12 seed form Thailand, who reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals last year, helped to make up the loss of British No.1 Anne Keothavong on the third day of the Wimbledon warm-up tournament.

In the fluctuating match, there were nine breaks of serve that finally swung the Briton’s way when she broke her opponent in the seventh game of the third set and served it out in a thrilling match.

The British No.6 will now face Swiss Stefanie Voegele, last week’s runner-up at the AEGON Trophy in Nottingham for a place in the quarter-finals.
