Former Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova‘s bid for a third title on grass remained on course as she moved smoothly into the quarter-finals.
The Russian crushed Francesca Schiavone 6-1, 6-3 in a little over an hour to move into the last eight of the AEGON Classic in Birmingham.
Sharapova who had been earlier on the court to wrap up her 6-3, 6-4 victory over Alexa Glatch, had little trouble with her Italian opponent.
The former No.1 was champion here in 2004-05 is rediscovering the form which took her to the Wimbledon title five years ago.
Sharapova will now face Belgian Yanina Wickmayer, who beat No.14 seed Roberta Vinci 6-1, 6-4.
