Russian Dmitry Tursunov overcame a challenging test against Italian Fabio Fognini but still prevailed 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 in the first round of the AEGON International.
Fognini, looking for his first win on grass, levelled the score as he pounced on all three of his break points. However, Tursunov stormed back in the decider with a crucial break to lead 5-4 and serve out the win in two hours.
Tursunov is making his fifth appearance at the event, where he reached the semi-finals in 2007 when the tournament was held in Nottingham (l. to Karlovic). The 26 year-old is looking to win consecutive tour-level matches since lifting the trophy in Metz last October (d. Mathieu).
