World No.81 Ivan Navarro accounted for a suprise departure as he beat defending champion David Ferrer in the quarter-finals of the Ordina Open.
The 27 year-old Navarro, who lost to Ferrer in their first meeting, sealed the first set in 47 minutes courtesy of a break of serve in the seventh game. The Spaniard then capitalised, breaking twice in the second set to close out victory in 1 hour and 20 minutes. Navarro saved all five break points he faced in the encounter to back up his hard-fought victory over No.6 seed Marc Gicquel.
In the semi-finals, Navarro will face Dutch wild card Raemon Sluiter, who beat Dudi Sela 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
