In his first grass court match of the season, Wimbledon holder Rafael Nadal lost to Lleyton Hewitt 6-4, 6-3 in an exhibition at Hurlingham Club. Nadal, who is going through a bout of knee tendinitis, will announce on Friday if he is fit enough to participate in Wimbledon.

“I love to play at the Hurlingham Club,” Nadal said on his official web site. “Today’s match was a real test, as close to reality as it could get. I will come back and play again [Friday] and then make my decision about playing at Wimbledon or not.”

Not only is Nadal is hoping to defend his Wimbledon title, but he faces a stiff challenge form Roger Federer for the No.1 ranking. He first replaced his rival on August 17, 2008.

Prior to that, the Spaniard held the No.2 spot for 160 consecutive weeks.
