World No.1 Dinara Safina has crashed out in the semi-finals of the Ordina Open, losing to Tamarine Tanasugarn which has hindered her preparations for Wimbledon.

The Thai edged out Safina, who is the top seed at Wimbledon, with a 7-5, 7-5 victory in match lasting almost two hours.

While Tanasugarn didn’t manage to hit an ace in the match, compared to her opponent’s six, she was also much less wasteful with only one double fault while Safina served six.

She will now face Belgian Yanina Wickmayer, who beat Italian Francesca Schiavone 7-6 (3), 2-6, 6-3.
