Former Maria Sharapova has been dumped out of this year’s Wimbledon by Argentine Gisela Dulko.
The No.24, still recovering from a shoulder injury, struggled in the first half of the match before succumbing 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
Sharapova made an unusual start, losing her first three games and dropping serve twice in the first set.
The Russian looked to make a convincing exit but stormed back to win the next six games in the second set and take the match to a decider.
In an interesting third set, the former No.1 Sharapova saved four match points before Dulko eventually prevailed.
“It’s the biggest win of my career because she’s a great champion and on Centre Court in the most important tournament in the world,” the 24-year-old said after the match.
