Israel have stunned Russia in the quarter-finals of the Davis Cup, taking an unassailable 3-0 lead in comprehensive fashion.

Starting the day leading 2-0, Israel’s top doubles specialists, Andy Ram and Jonathan Erlich took to the court to face former World No.1 Marat Safin and Igor Kunitsyn.

Ram and Erlich looked to be on course, leading 6-3, 6-4 and serving for the match in the third set.

However, the Russians stormed back taking the next two sets 7-6(3), 6-4 to force a decider. Ram and Erlich, remained unshaken, breaking their opponent’s  serve in the final game of the match.

Israel’s victory marks Russia’s earliest exit from Davis Cup since 1994 where they will now face Spain or Germany in the semi-finals.
