This is a debate that has raged on for years, even after the distribution of equal prize money at the Grand Slams. Many ATP players still question why women receive equal prize money when they are only playing best of three set matches at the majors. Greater interest in the men’s game and women being not fit enough to play best of five set matches, are one of the few reasons men feel they deserve to be paid more.
Women have rubbished the claims, suggesting that they train just as hard as the men. In turn, they have criticized the quality of men’s matches and reinstated that their popularity with spectators remains high. Personally, I do not believe men should have an advantage over women in terms of prize money. There are too many arguments that are credible and true with any change now causing uproar and controversy. The solution? Maintain the status quo.
