Romanian Victor Hanescu snapped his three-match losing streak to record his first ATP win in over a month. Hanescu defeated Nicolas Lapentti 6-7(6), 6-3, 7-5 to reach the second round of the Austrian Open.
The No.3 seed converted four of 14 break point opportunities for victory in almost three hours. He won 68 of 90 service points, including five aces. He improves to a 8-14 season mark highlighted by quarter-finals at Doha (l. to Roddick) and Casablanca (l. to Ferrero). Lapentti drops to 7-9 this season.
